Tātou - support system for hospice nurses

Being close to someone while knowing their life will end soon is hard. Experiencing loss is a daily reality for hospice nurses.
Tātou is a service for hospice nurses that facilitates self-care to enhance their wellbeing and resilience. Tātou helps hospice nurses navigate the difficulties of compassion fatigue by making self-care accessible, both individually and with peers.

I worked on Tātou as my final year Honours project at Massey University. I did extensive research into the effects of compassion fatigue, including having the opportunity to interview and shadow hospice nurses at work to understand where my project could provide support. I had close contact with the hospice nurses through the development phase and co-designed a solution that would integrate into their busy days, whilst enhancing their wellbeing.
